Your Home To Heaven On Earth
“And the LORD God formed man
of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God
planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom
he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow
every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the
tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of
knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to
water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into
four heads. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the
garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it And the LORD God
commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou
mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest
thereof thou shalt surely die”
(Genesis 2:7-10, 15-17).
The passage above reveals the
original design of God for marriage. Every marriage is to
produce a family that will experience heaven on earth. Indeed,
the first couple experienced this before God sent them out of
Eden
because of their disobedience.
Requirements For Making Your
Marriage Heaven On Earth
If you want your marriage to be
heaven on earth, you must fulfil the following requirements:
1)
You and your spouse must be filled and be controlled by
the Holy Spirit. Man did not become a living soul until God
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. It follows
therefore that husband and wife must have the Spirit of God in
them and submit to the leading of the Spirit before they can
enjoy a blissful marriage.
2)
You must allow the Word of God to moderate your
relationship and conduct. “ And the LORD God took the man,
and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the
garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that
thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” Gen. 2:15-17). If
Adam and Eve had obeyed the above command, every marriage will
be heaven on earth today. Their disobedience brought marriage
under the bondage of Satan. But if you and your spouse decide to
obey God, your marriage can still turn around and be successful.
3)
You must be contented with God’s provision for you.
“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your
eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and
evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired
to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat,
and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat”
(Gen. 3:5-6). God had made provision for Adam and Eve before He
created them and put them in the Garden of Eden. However, Eve
was not satisfied with God’s provision. She wanted to be like
God. She took the forbidden fruit. God sent Adam and Eve out of
Eden to toil and labour to earn a living. Only if you and your
spouse are contented with the provision of God and you trust in
Him completely, He will care for you and supply your NEEDS!!!
Relationship In A Godly
Family
In a home that could be
described as an extension of heaven on earth, husband and wife
must relate in a special way.
1)
As husband you must love your wife in three special ways:
(a) As Christ loves the Church (Sacrificial love) -
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the
church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and
cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might
present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or
wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish” (Eph. 5:25-27). (b) As your body - “So
ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that
loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his
own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord
the church” (Eph. 5:28-29). (c) As yourself -
“Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his
wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence
her husband” (Eph. 5:33).
2)
As wife, you must submit to your husband. “Wives,
submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For
the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head
of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as
the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their
own husbands in every thing” (Eph. 5:22-24).
3)
Husband and wife must see themselves as one.
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and
shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one
flesh” (Gen. 2:24). This implies that:
a)
They will have one mind.
b)
They will share the same vision.
c)
They will have feeling for each other.
d)
They will not cheat or maltreat each other.
e)
They will not keep secrets from each other.
f) They
will always stay together. “Again, if two lie together, then
they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?” (Eccl.
4:11).
g)
They will not think of divorcing each other as this will
implies ‘death’ of both of them. “Wherefore they are no more
twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together,
let not man put asunder” (Matt. 19:6).
Benefits Of Godly Family
In a godly family, there will be
peace, harmony and joy. They will enjoy divine blessings and
prosperity. Children that grow in this family will fear God and
they will live a godly life. This will enable God to fulfil His
promises concerning the family. “For I know him, that he will
command his children and his household after him, and they shall
keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the
LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him”
(Gen. 18:19).
